i have a grand plan that i would like to share with y'all and would greatly appreciate any thoughts, ideas, input of any sort...
i've been busy organizing a crafty mama's collective in the riverdale area, but our plans are shifting to encompass a wider group - CRAFTY LADIES. basically, i'd like to open a gallery/boutique (i use that term VERY loosely) in the queen east area and feature work by independent artists in the city - any art!! what i'd like to have is a eclectic selection of handcrafted wares as well as visual art for sale and/or display and also facilitate workshops for those dabbling in the crafty arts...
sock monkeys are welcome :)

Re: pipe dream...
Sun, April 24, 2005 - 12:03 PMI meant to reply to this earlier but think that I was tripped out as it was something flinging around in my head as a business possibility (and still is one). I think it's a great idea! I love a place in SF called Ruby that acts as an artist co-op where each artists gets a larger share of the sale then usual since the artists work in the store a set number of hours per month. I had thought of doing a similar concept but with clothes when I was in SF but it just wasn't time.
as well as sock monkeys, you should also include the CRAFTY BOYS! there are some cute ones that lurk in the knitty stores, not many, but they're there :)

Re: pipe dream...
Tue, April 26, 2005 - 8:23 AMwell, i'd like to find something in the east end ~ Queen near Broadview-Jonesish, which, based on a lot of the existing businesses (cafes, small galleries, antique shops) can't be that much...
investment would be nice, but i have a small business, and have spoken with some other mama's who are doing the same, so hopefully we'll have dineros ;) -

Re: pipe dream...
Wed, April 27, 2005 - 10:30 AMMy idea for a crafty store in Toronto that I've been thinking of making a reality is to have a workshop based store. It would sell all those great crafty tools and bits from glues to scissors to felt and pipe cleaners and also have a workshop space.
I love your idea of having a space for artists to share their created items. I was thinking of the backend side of it for those that want to craft. My thought was to have many things available for free use and then pay per use on items that you put in your project, so kind of like a bead store but crafty.
I think that a lot of people just don't have the space or desire to get all of the tools together and have boxes of fabric and collage stuff lying around, Crafting It (what I'd like to call the store) would have all that, plus a great workshop environment and items that could be bought for home. -

Re: pipe dream...
Sun, May 1, 2005 - 9:25 PMsteph, i REALLLY like that idea too... why don't you guys (i really mean girls.. ) pool your resources together and make it all one store? (i mean, the beadstore sells bead creations as well as a beading-space! ) ... i think it would amazing.. and it would really bring together (in a real physical form! ) those that are looking for a forum to create ...
honestly, i don't have any cash to invest... but if you ever need any human resources even just to get the idea running (or to run the store!) ... let me know. i love new ventures :) (especially when they're fun ones! )
