Garage Salers Unite!

One more thread! I have recently become seriously addicted to Garage Sales. I know in past lives it has been difficult to hit many at once with only a bike, so I'd like to offer up 2 cars (a bug with roofrack + trailer and a volvo station wagon) to anyone willing to embark on a Saturday morning garage sale ritual.

We could meet at some local coffee shop (we are in The Beach), discuss maps/locations/strategies and head out from there.

Looking for Large Project Space and Community

Does anyone want to make their own furniture - or re-design throwaway garage-sale furniture into funky new creations??

After returning recently from the Bay Area, and visiting the Crucible space (a huge wraehouse collective/school for welding, jewellery work etc. major and minor scale) I have been wishing there were something similar here in Toronto.

I noticed much of the posting here has to do with smaller scale crafts so I hope I am not on a tangent, but this tribe seems to be apporpriate for the topic I am proposing.

The projects I am interested and active in are:

Furniture Design and Construction, personal and for sale
Van, RV and Trailer redesign/renovation
Building Teardrop trailers and custom campers (all eco)
Collectng salvaged/dead/forgotten furniture and recombining into new creations.
All kinds of other related projects requiring woodshop/welding tools and a large, well-lit, ventilated space.

If anyone knows anyone else who'd be willing to embark on such projects, or knows of a collective shop/space - I would be willing to share tools, skills, time, whatever - or I would be happy to learn of such initiatives already!

Any ideas you crafty people?

FREE ADMISSION!

Our CRAFT CLUTTER CLEAR-OUT is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY to join fellow crafters and share, swap, sell or give away surplus craft stuff. There will even be a "PICK-PACK-PAY" Room where you can pick what you want, pack it in a bag and pay what you think it's worth.

We know Crafters like to sit and talk and compare notes.... so Coffee, Tea and Lunch will be available for a nominal charge.

There are 25 tables rented so far, if you have craft supplies to be rid of, tables are cheap, speak up.

i have a grand plan that i would like to share with y'all and would greatly appreciate any thoughts, ideas, input of any sort...
i've been busy organizing a crafty mama's collective in the riverdale area, but our plans are shifting to encompass a wider group - CRAFTY LADIES. basically, i'd like to open a gallery/boutique (i use that term VERY loosely) in the queen east area and feature work by independent artists in the city - any art!! what i'd like to have is a eclectic selection of handcrafted wares as well as visual art for sale and/or display and also facilitate workshops for those dabbling in the crafty arts...

I have just completed a mask for a project called seamless songs. I posted some photos of the process. The photo's aren't great and i still have to put some FEV on the mask....i would love to see some more crafty work...and hope to be getting crafty with y'all very soon

sock monkey sale?

hey all,

i am making sock dolls (sort of mokeys) out of recycled stuff - they're kind of zany, i'll post pics sometime. what is the general opinion - would they sell in kensington , where i live, or at folk festivals, where i'll be in july? does this kind of craft have a market? anyone have experience with this?

i hate to bring business into something that's so fun but ya gotta make a buck somehow.

Who are you?

Hi everyone!
This feels funny to post with no members yet, but I'm glad that you've joined if you're reading this! I recently moved back to Toronto after being away for a couple years, first Thailand then San Francisco.

I really enjoy getting together with others to craft or stitch and bitch. I am a dabbler in many different crafts and like to knit, collage, plaster cast making masks and headresses, make costumes (I go to Burning Man) and accessories (like purses and pasties!), funky foods, homemade care packages and want to learn to do tiling, pottery, glass blowing, welding and most fun things that get my hands active and keep me happy and creative.

How about you?
What do you like to do? Are you interested in getting together on a regular basis to work on projects?

Masks!

For fun this weekend a friend and I decided to make plaster masks, I was somewhat disappointed though with the way it turned out. The surface wasn't very smooth at all. Any suggestions how I can smooth it out?

Toronto Church of Craft

There is a local Church of Craft and they have a newsletter that I just signed up to. Apparently they gather the second Sunday of each month, so April would be on the 9th. You can check them out at http://www.churchofcraft.org/doors/toronto/ and sign up for their mailing list there.
